Sleeper of the Week: Manila Killa

This guy makes some of the best bootlegs/remix that I have EVER heard hands down, everything this kid reworks is gold and his latest remix of the Deadmau5 masterpiece Strobe is no exception. A young kid that hails from the Philippines, who's creativity allows him to make a real array of tracks.  Where his skills really lie is in the ability to infuse the vocals and ignite energy in the track. His tracks always seem to have that crowd pumping energy, and people seem to really like his bootlegs when I perform. One of my favorite mixes would have to his bootleg titled 'Titanium Minds' which is a blend of David Guetta's 'Titanium' and Feenixpawls 'Colours'. Manila Killa, KILLED IT, the tracks blend so perfectly that it feels almost like it was always one song. Big ups to this dance music producer, I'm always excited to see what he is up too next and I hope now you are too. Remember you heard it first on West Coast 808.

Paris Hilton's Train Wreck of a DJ Appearance

So, yet again Paris attempts to somehow stay relevant in the public eye, most of the time for the wrong reasons (cough cough). Ms. Hilton hangs with DJs so she must have figured being a DJ would come easy .... boy was she wrong. Along with the awkward dancing and her ill attempts to get the crowd going, she also displayed a lack of any technical knowledge of what mixing entails. Her transitions between tracks horrendous manipulation of EQs, and she even lacked the mental capacity to play the correct track when it came to belting out the lyrics for 'Last Night' her song with Brazilian legend Afrojack(why would he????). With an over the top ensemble and a clear lack of understanding of the art, Paris embarrasses herself AGAIN for our entertainment. To the guy who came on stage to fix the gain: thanks for the attempt to make things better, but it was a lost cause. Moral of the story is... Paris you are not a DJ, so please see your way out.

Sleeper of the Week: Kairo Kingdom

Looking for some music to blow the top off your next gig or just wow your friends, well look no further than Kairo Kingdom. A newly found project consisting of Electro House, Glitch Hop, and Dubstep. This duo from German are obviously highly talented in terms of production with having a wide array of work. On their Big Fish EP Crazy Rock, you see that it has a little bit of everything from really filthy and crunchy dub on the track Crazy Rock and Das Knarz big cords and heavy breakdowns.  I can not wait to see these two Germans future endeavors. Included below area a few of their latest tracks, turn it up loud and let that bass slap you into submission. SORRY for the long wait, but West Coast 808 is BACK!

Thomas Gold

In 2010 Thomas Gold was voted "Breakthrough DJ/ Producer" in DJ Mag and for good reason; this Munich native brings the FIRE.  Above is 'Sing 2 Me' which I felt was going to be his best song of this year UNTIL I heard his latest project. I know that I just posted about Dirty South's remix of Miike Snow's track 'The Devil's Work'; well Thomas Gold is soon to release a remix of another Miike Snow track 'Wave'. This song starts out with a synth that makes you feel a little bit like you are floating through space, and then the the drums come in and it continues to climb; then BOOM. Just peep the rip of the world exclusive preview from the one and only BBC's Radio One with Pete Tong if you would like to see what I mean by 'BOOM'. 'Wave' is set to be officially released on the 14th of May on  Beatport, and this song is sure to be a crowd pleaser (Trust Me!).

Currently Thomas Gold is touring around the globe making stops in Brazil, the Netherlands,  and will be performing in June at EDC Las Vegas (unfortunately I will not be attending but sure to be a great show). Below I have also included a mix of some of my favorites from Thomas Gold for whom sky's the limit. ENJOY!

Sleeper of the Week: Badisco

Badisco is a young producer from Switzerland, who took his skills as a keyboardist and knowledge of sequencers into the realm of electronic music production. His tracks have a similar sound to Avicii and Basto (if you still don't know him you should) with the big progressive cords and a happy and uplifting feel to his tracks. Melancholy (featured below) was my first taste of the Badisco sound, and since then I have been hooked on that big piano sound and his build ups are sure to get people jacked. On his SoundCloud page ( http://soundcloud.com/badisco ) you can see the preview he posted just yesterday for his upcoming track Horizons, which is definitely a track that I am excited to be officially released.  That being said, the best is yet to come from this young gun, and be on the look out for him in the near future.  If you like West Coast 808 tell your friends about the blog and be sure to  Like the blog on Facebook to receive updates.  Thank you to all my readers.

Dirty South's New Release: Devil's Work Remix

Dirty South has been one of my favorite producers for a while, he has got flare to his work and his use of vocals is superb. The song the 'Devil's Work' was originally a Miike Snow track which had a calm feel to it, but Dirty South transforms the song into a club/festival banger. The build ups are long but when the beat drops, the song becomes a whole different beast.  Below is a HQ version of his remix which was released today and is available for purchase on Beatport. I also have included some of  my favorite tracks.

Bio: Dirty South or 'Dragan Roganovic' was born in Serbia, and began is career by making remixes and mashups on his family computer. His work caught the eye of Australian record company: Vicious Vinyl, and he his career has just been uphill from there. In 2009 he was ranked 59 in DJ Mags top 100,  and has done tracks with the likes of the Swedish House Mafia and David Guetta.

Deadmau5's Latest Masterpiece: Veldt

Joel Zimmerman better know as "Deadmau5" has taken Progressive House to a new level, with his lights and live production being second to none.  He has played huge gigs such as the VMA's and Grammy's, to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. What most fans don't know is Joel's passion and inspiration for his music. His latest track 'Veldt' which was shown to his avid fans through a live studio stream. The track is quite possibly his best piece of work to date since 'I Remember'.  Joel is a true innovator having built a huge fan base without going the popular route has Joel said 'Dropping the Bass' and 'Put your hands in the air' kind of house music! Well back to Veldt, his inspiration was Ray Bradbury's short story 'The Veldt' about a high tech nursery that can telepathically create a reality in which the children envision, and they become obsessed with this alternate reality. Definitely, give the story a quick read it really gets the mind going, and will help you understand the lyrics in the track.  I obviously could not describe the track any better than the man himself so I included the link to his tumblr for you all to read Deadmau5's tumblr .  I have also included the studio rip, please excuse the talking and random Meowing, Joel just wants to protect the song by watermarking it.  The track should be officially released soon, and is sure to be a chart topper.

skip to around 1:45 to avoid his ranting in the beginning. Doesn't it have a MYSTIC feel to it?

Hardwell

The King of House is none other the one and only Tiesto who is a Dutch man from the 076. Hardwell is a young and fresh on the scene producer and DJ also from the Zero-76 in Holland(hence the song). If I were to explain these  two DJs' relationship it would be analogous with the The Emperor (Tiesto) and Anikan Skywalker (Hardwell). Having toured together and even collaborating on the song Zero-76 on Tiesto's Club Life Vol. 1 album. So under the wing of Tiesto and also with the talent this guy naturally possesses he has been making a whole lot of noise. So in terms of style he uses very creative and dominating synths on his tracks and lots of BASS, thus his music is not for the casual listen. His music is more geared towards making thousands of people go wild (Big Room House) with huge drops. Speaking of which I don't think I have been more excited for the release of track as his soon to be released song 'Kontiki'(peep the Official Teaser below!). More to come from Hardwell, who will appearing at Ultra in MIAMI this month!

Sleeper of the Week: Steerner

So here yet again is another Swede with some serious talent, Steerner. His music is a fuse between the infamous Avicii who's song 'Levels' put progressive house in the international spotlight, and also Basto (doesn't get the recognition he deserves) who implements huge piano chords into his tracks. The combo  makes for a real solid big room sound, which is sure to capture the crowd. More good things to come from Steerner, a young man from the epicenter of Progressive, in right place to make big moves in the future. Its exciting to see so many young and talented artists hitting the stage, for there seems to be no end in sight for what the genre can achieve and the creativity they can implement. Be sure to spread the word about West Coast 808!

Klavay Weekly Mix #6

So Klavay just keeps pumping out mix after mix, can they get any better?(NO) Every week he makes a mix filled with the best of the best releases of the week, hitting you will not only the freshest tracks but also a nice mix of artists from all over the globe. One my favorite tracks on mix #6 is Troll-Quilnez, not only is it mine but its been a favorite of the Swedish House Mafia and Alesso during recent performances. Also featured on the mix is Wolfgang Gartner's latest gem 'There and Back', he always is a bit different in his beat production but thats what makes him so good.  I can honestly say that I  can just hit play on everyone of these mixes and just let em play( they are all that good). If you follow his channel on Mixcloud™ you will find the links to download all of his mixes.  GOOD NEWS He is currently working on #7  so that should be up in the next couple of days as well. What is Klavay going to play NEXT? Find out in the next issue of Klavay's Weekly Mix.

Sleeper of the Week: Cherry Coke

He hails from PrzemyÅ›l, Podkarpackie, Poland ( however that is pronounced), well that aside I by chance landed on his remix of Away while looking for a different track. And OH BOY, did I find a Gem. Being and avid listener of all sub genres of House music, Cherry Coke brings his own flavor to game. By incorporating vocals seamlessly into his drops making the song just POP  and also kind of has a hint of that Basto (one of my favorites) flavor with his chord progressions.  He is young and hungry having started out making bootlegs and already into production. There will be more to come from Cherry Coke, if he ever finds his way out of Poland. Its always nice to throw on a House song that isn't  Levels (although I love that song) but gotta mix it up. Right? Check out the links I provided, and tell your friends about West Coast 808!

American DJ Spotlight: Treasure Fingers

Many of you might know ATL for being the epicenter of Dirty South Rap being the hometown of T.I., Outkast, Ludacris, and other big names. But Treasure Fingers an innovative Disco House producer also calls Atlanta home. Disco House uses a lot of samples from old Disco tracks, and hence they have a nice funky dance feel to them.  Treasure Fingers aka "Ashley Jones" got his start as a member of the drum and bass group "Evol Intent" before going off on a successful solo career. This guy has been in the game for over a decade  earning the respect of some of the biggest names in the game, and has toured with some big name guys such as Laidback Luke & Benny Benassi (just to name a few). His sound is very distinct and creative,  fresh synths and hard hitting drum breaks. Check out the tracks I have provided below.  Let the FUNK PLAY!

Madeon

Hugo Leclercq, a.k.a Madeon, is an electropop producer/DJ hailing from France.  Best known for his remix of Deadmau5’s “Raise Your Weapon” and his original live mashup “Pop Culture,” a combination of 39 pop songs into one track, this 17-year-old phenom has blown up over the past year.  Madeon uses a Novation Launchpad to create music, which essentially allows him to “play” his tracks live (check out the YouTube video below and you'll see what I mean).  I had the chance to see this guy live at Snowglobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe, CA over the 2011 New Year’s Eve weekend and he absolutely killed it.  As cliché as it sounds, all of his tracks just make you want to dance, and he had the crowd going wild throughout the entire set.  Madeon does an amazing job of blending house and pop music to create his own unique style and sound.  Keep an eye out for this kid, he’s only going to become a bigger name in electronic music as time goes on.

Klavay in the Mix 005 - Hi Everybody!!

What's going on my fellow EDM enthusiasts!  Klavay here introducing myself.  I am a DJ/producer/blogger from Madison, WI.  I use to author a blog called "Sound Of My Shoes," but sadly, I began to find myself focusing more on my music and less on blogging.  My good friend Tom has been kind enough to let me join the party here at Westcoast 808.  So here it is, the latest installment of Klavay in the Mix.

In this episode, I have plenty of tracks from up and comers such as JoeySuki, Lazrtag, Caveat and plenty more.  My personal favorite is the brand new track from Lucky Date called "Six 16."  Go ahead and take a listen, follow me on my Mixcloud profile, and be on the lookout for my new track which should be done over the weekend.  I'll try and get a preview up a little later tonight.

Klavay in the Mix Vol. 4

Another mix put out by DJ Klavay, hitting it hard with some of the newest tracks featuring 'Eyes Wide Open'- Dirty South and 'In My Mind (Axwell Edit)'.  I personally love the first song 'Can't Stop Me'- Afrojack, a heavy hitting, nice vocal track, with some serious bass to it.  Can't say a bad thing about this mix, be sure to keep your eyes open for his own original productions soon, I've been in the studio heard it the works (REALLY GOOD). Download it and enjoy.

Sleeper of the Week: Ehrencrona

I happen to stumble upon this guy while listening to this video which was wrongly labeled as Avicii ( if you don't know don't post it). This guy has some real talent, got some nice melody, and has nice vocals on his tracks.  Can't find a whole lot of info on this guy, but he hails from SWEDEN. Listen to the tracks, spread the word.

Tommy Trash

This guy brings the thunder for down under, that's right yet another Aussie coming onto the the scene in a big way in 2011 and only going to continue to rise. Big name guys such as Tiesto are not afraid to throw some Tommy Trash in the mix, because they are main room pleasers. Whether it is a remix or an original track Tommy Trash puts his artistic flair into it making a whole new beast. He loves to add heavy bass and some pretty creative progressions. His recently released original track 'Cascade' has hit #12 on Beatport, everything this guy touches is gold.  One could assume there are more big hits to come from Tommy Trash in 2012, including an appearance at Ultra Music Festival in Miami in March. Turn it up loud and let the beats play.

Sleeper of the Week: Feenixpawl

Australia is becoming a major hub for the electronic scene, churning out groups like Pendulum, Tommy Trash, Knife Party(side project of members of Pendulum), Feenixpawl, and more. Feenixpawl is a two man crew consisting of Aden Forte and Josh Soon. They originally came to my attention when during the Swedish House Mafia at Madison Square Garden played their track, 'Colours' (which was featured in my inaugural post).  That is the beautiful thing about the DJ/Producer community in the electronic generes, guys will of course play their originals, but more often then not they feature tracks from under the radar guys which in turn will boost the lesser knowns popularity. So back the Feenixpawl, this duo has some really cool electro/house tracks which I have provided for your listening pleasure.

American DJ Spotlight: Wolfgang Gartner

This guy may look like a father of two living happily in the suburbs with his wife and working a desk job. He actually is a very talented DJ with his debut album 'Weekend in America' being released last September, which by the way is a masterpiece. He displays his talents by making  some heavy hitting electro house tracks and even infusing hip hop and electro to make a unique sound. One such track is 'Circus Freaks' on which Wolfgang collaborates with Jim Jones and Cam'ron, and its got a hard synth line and loaded with bass. He is also not afraid to go into uncharted territory such as in 'Shrunken Heads' (my favorite track) he distorts his sound until the listener cannot really put their finger on it. Also,  make sure if he is coming to your town you get a ticket I saw him last Halloween; man put on one hell of a show which included an  encore of his collaboration with Deadmau5 'Animal Rights'. This guy really is putting America on the map of electronic music, with 8 tracks hitting the #1 spot on Beatport's Top 10.  That being said Wolfgang Gartner is the real deal,  and sure to keep the hits coming.

Holiday Hangovers

Coming out of the holiday season, last night being the grand daddy of them all, I am sure many of you have felt better than you do today after a long night of champagne and partying. 2011 was a great year for electronic music with major steps forward in conquering the Last Frontier the US of A, and I'm sure that 2012 will be even bigger year with many new artists put on the global map. I included a few songs here to hopefully make the hangover a little less painful for you.
